Earth Day 2010
As always, it has been a hectic time preparing the presentation material needed to try to explain to others how we intend to help heal Earth & live sustainably.
I still cannot understand why we have to explain the same scenario over and over - and have to re-invent the wheel every time as well. (Having been concerned about the environment since the 1960's, and watched as one little baby after another dies, just because of their geography, I am still at a loss for the reason of this condition!)
I had luckily pre-booked the pitch for North Norfolk Coast's Earth Day at Burnham Deepdale, if I hadn't, I don't think I would have gone this year with the funeral on Monday, and everything else going on!! http://www.deepdalefarm.co.uk/earthday/index
As it turned out, I had to get all the presentation material ready for the local Community Council for Monday (which I sent out in the early hours, to allow for the day for the funeral!), I also needed it for the meeting with the Housing Association on Tuesday - as well as the Earth Day exhibition stand yesterday.
Trying to explain the proposals which are global and inclusive, down to a finite, simple and replicable slideshow to illustrate how the connections start to work together at a rural level has always been a problem for me.
Luckily, I have had my ideas bashed around for long enough that they have an enduring and sharpened point honed into their fabric - the cotton is now so pointed, that I am able to thread the very sharp needle with it!!
I worked flat out all last weekend trying to produce spreadsheets for a business plan of a sustainable community living project - based on NO site, NO people, NO land, NO topography - or any other factor - and yes, I had been ASKED to!! - Having done so, I hope it proves the replicable nature of our proposals!!
The slideshow was a doddle afterwards in comparison - luckily I did it in the right order!
I rang Richard Dix of http://www.ruralbroadband.co.uk to see if he would like me to promote his broadband satellite dish - I have known him for years, and he has always provided me with a brilliant service on my computer requisites!
Having a broadband dish gave me the freedom to be wireless outside, and run the permaculture films from my http://www.eco-designs.net + on Monday, I threw a curve ball at him which he managed to catch quite successfully!!! - I wanted to show how easy it was to have a "SCHOOL" - anywhere!
I asked whether he had any contacts who would also like a photovoltaic cell represented there - and, with a battery, we were totally free of all the mains (or chains, as I would call them!)
On Wednesday I called over to Heacham to pick up Richard's promotional material - and walked in to find that he had indeed managed to put the whole kit together for me - ACE!! - Not only that, but he also very kindly came over to Burnham Deepdale to set it up on Thursday morning.
In fact, as it was such beautiful sunny day, and there was a good stream of people there, he came back to share the stand too and we thoroughly enjoyed the day.
I don't know how many sales he will make, hopefully he will have covered his lost income by not having been in his workshop. Unlike me!
What people do not understand is that I am not selling anything - ergo, all the lost working hours and expense, is my own children's food, clothing and even school shoes. (As a single parent, working self-employed, and living rurally in unaffordable housing - I know my cause from the inside out!!)
The pitch didn't cost very much at all - but I still had to buy a gazebo, decorating table etc & I haven't managed to do ANY paid work in well over a week, as I have had so much to do to try and get the FINAL presentation documents together for Eco-Designs Network & for Global Ark Projects NPD http://www.globalarkprojects.com
A couple of friends came to help and support me, which was really good!! - and I met with someone who had got completely parallel views which they are working on, and which I have been lucky enough to be invited to view! :D
I was also lucky enough to have the opportunity of meeting with a farmer, who is very interested in forming a sustainable community living project upon his land - I will update this information as or when!!
All in all, a really good day, in the company of friends!!
I got some lovely photographs on the way home too on my mobile phone - this planet is just SO precious.. How can I ever feel upset at the opportunity of trying to help heal 'Her' - for this, OUR home, and our garden for our children - I simply cannot afford to do NOTHING - even if I cannot actually personally afford to DO!
Knowing the balance hangs with us and our ability to start to fill the wounds in Earth's crust, not with the debris of a 'throw-away' society - (like poison being shoved into an open wound), but by cleansing the skin, adding nutrients, balancing & toning!! - Our MOTHER - Earth, needs a really good facial!! - a good detox, a well-balanced diet + and some VERY serious cleaning!!)
My aim as always, is to act as a consultant & enabler, earn a wage as such, and put the net profit from the commissions into the "re-distributions & regenerations" pot, for & in perpetuity...
(which will be an awful lot better than working for free - with nothing for tea!)
